The Principles of Marksmanship (under construction, will be added to - 24/10/05) There are four principles of marksmanship taught to Air Cadets. These are: -
This means that the firer's shooting position, and the hold that they take of the rifle, must be sufficiently firm to provide a stable base for the firer to be able to apply accurate rifle fire onto the target. Key points assisting the development and maintenance of this position are as follows:-
Body should be angled at between 5 and 20 degrees to the line of fire; i.e. a right handed firer's body would be angled away to the left at c 20 degrees
Spine straight, shoulders level Left leg parallel to line of body Right leg extended parallel to line of fire Left elbow close to axis of rifle (supports Centre of Gravity or weight of the rifle Fore-end of rifle to lie diagonally across the palm of the hand Approximately equal angle between upper and lower arm (V shape)
n
n The rifle must point naturally at the target without undue physical effort Sight alignment and aim must be correct
The shot must be released and followed through without disturbing the position
